I´ve read “This Charming Man” by Marian Keyes. Marian Keys is a well-known author who has been awarded several prizes for her many books. This Charming Man is a fiction book which alludes to the sense of humor. It’s a strong and passionate book which is about several women who take revenge on the same guy. The man, Paddy, is a politician in Ireland and has a very high status in the society. But he´s not only a very handsome and charming politician, he´s also a womanizer and has a several secret relationships. One day it leaks to the press that Paddy is getting married. Several women from different places with different background react the same way. They felt cheated, and over time it pops up more secrets about Paddy. In the end these women take contact and decide to revenge together. They are going to leak all his secrets to the press if he won’t cooperate with them and their plans.

As a reader you follow four women as they live their lives. All these women have one thing in common; they know Paddy in different ways. As a reader you don’t know how until you´ve read almost a third of the book. I must say that it´s a good thing to do when you as an author want to build excitement. You don´t tell the whole story at once, without keeping some for later and let the reader think for itself and wonder. Marian Keys also write all her books with sarcasm and in an ironic style, and as you read the book you will find yourself to laugh about things which are actually sad. With Marian Keys as an author you can laugh at mistakes and see it in an ironic perspective.

The story takes place in different environments all after you read about several different characters. Sometimes you are in England and sometimes you are in different cities in Ireland, but the main city or the regular place is in Ireland. It´s where Paddy and all the other characters lived from the beginning. Keys don´t describe the environment that much, she are much more describing the characters looks, clothes, smell and habits. But without Marian keys describing the environments, you can anyway know how the atmosphere re is like from how the characters acting. The atmosphere is not only about how the streets looks like, it´s also about which feelings there are. And from reading between the lines you can notice that the language may be ironic but the atmosphere is many times very serious with sadness.

In fact, from reading between the lines and look beside the language you can see pain and human-hunger for a different life. Marian Keyes is very good at this, mix humor with serious and painful stories. I think the message with this book isn´t only to amuse. It´s a revenge-book that makes you reflect over your own life. It´s a story about girly things which makes you laugh but it´s also a story about how deep you can sink because of love. And how people you´ve trust becomes something else. It´s a story about love. The love between a man and a woman and the love between families, from mother to child and from sister to sister. But most it´s a story about loving yourself, how you must learn to love yourself and there after you can love someone else. It’s a really deep message which I think everybody should take part of.

This message carries by all the characters but one character which I fell for and which I think carrying the message best are Marnie. From the beginning you don’t know what relationship she has to Paddy, but as time passes you got to know that Marnie was together with Paddy as a teenager and ever since she never let go of him. The reason is because he left her after beating her up, with such self-hate and devastating sorrow that she became very insecure. Marnie isn’t only a very miserable character, in the ending chapters you get to know that she also is an alcoholic, and by the following chapters the struggle against the alcohol walk side by side with the struggle of her self-esteem and Paddy. Marnie is the character I admire most and I think she light up the book with her story. She tells you about the young Paddy and how he affected her. Without her story, the book wouldn´t be as deep as it´s now and she stands for the most important part, loving you.

I’ve actually read several of Marian Keyes’ novels and I like them very much. This on, however, I haven’t read. I think you have narrowed down the plot in a good and interesting way.

I’ve read All I Want by Margaret Johnson. It is a book about Alex who is a personal assistant and has just turned thirty years old. She is a little clumsy, takes on different shoes and is often late for work. Alex is in love with his new boss Brad who is the owner of the Courtney Art Gallery.

It is Alex's birthday and her boyfriend Barry has invited her for dinner. Before she went out to meet Barry at the restaurant, she decided to break up with him but it didn’t go as planned.

Brad and his girlfriend are at the same restaurant as Alex. Alex can not stop watch and listen to them. Suddenly Brad and his girlfriend starts to quarrel and Alex have hopes of them to break up.

Barry surprised Alex with balloons and singing at the restaurant, but Alex didn’t like it, she was embarrassed.

The day after a lot of journalists comes to the gallery and wants to ask Brad questions about faked paintings that he has sold. Brad and Alex run away from them and get to Brad's house located in the countryside.

When Alex spends time with Brad at the countryside she realizes more and more that Brad is not the one she had wished for. This leads to that Alex appreciates and understand that her true love is Barry.

It seams to me, for reading this book that some things are not as you imagine yourself. People may change with time, also when you get to know them. Being different is nothing negative.

You have to be who you are, and not wish to be like someone else. Alex has got a lot of bad luck in her life. She can’t see all the good things she already has, friends, family, boyfriend and so on. She lives in a fantasy world where she imagines Brad as a perfect man and she holds a prospect of a future with that person.

I think Alex is immature that can’t really understand the reality. To get so hardly in love with someone you do not know when you already have a boyfriend is inappropriate. Alex writes long lists about a future with Brad and I might think it is weird. I think it is a way for her to find something to long for, something that could change her boring life into something greater.

List one (before Alex met Brad)

1. Travel around the world.

2. Write a bestselling book.

3. Give up smoking.

List two (When Alex have met Brad)

1. Have a conversation with Brad without my knees shaking.

2. Tell my boyfriend Barry I don’t want to go out with him anymore.

3. Tell Brad I love him

Alex's life before she met Brad was more exciting; she wanted to do things with her life. After she began working at the Courtney Art Gallery and met Brad, her life changed completely. She couldn’t think of anything ells than Brad. Alex thinks he's so attractive and interesting that she forgets the reality.

At the beginning of the book is Alex deeply in love with her boss Brad, but he has not shown any interest in her. She is willing to sacrifice everything just to be with him. For a while she is spending days with Brad and start to realize that it isn’t him she wants to live her life with any longer. She sees that her true love is actually her boyfriend Barry who has always been there for her.

“I know I’ve wanted Brad to kiss me for weeks. I know I wanted to marry him and have his babies. But the fact is, when he kissed me… nothing happened. I didn’t feel anything. Not a thing”.

Nothing is what it seams to be at the first sight. This I something I have learned during my short life. To see the true things you need to spend time with it. So no one can judge anyone at the first sight.

When writing a summary of a plot use present tense all the time (on all the verbs). Try not to overuse the article “the”.

I think you have narrowed down the plot in a good way where you at the same time displayed Alex as a person and the focus on that she changes and searches for something better. She feels that the grass is greener on the other side and doesn’t realise that what she actually has is the best. She is a little blind to what she has. She doesn’t see the wood for the trees so to speak.

There are four books in the Twilight saga. And this is the last one. In the first book we got the chance to know Isabella Swan and Edward Cullen they are the main characters. She moved to her dad in Forks and left sunny Arizona behind her. On her first day at Forks High school she meets Edward. She found him strange but fascinating. Edward is not like other boys or humans for that matter, he is a vampire. And for being a vampire he is different because a small amount of vampires have special powers, and he can read thoughts. He lives outside Forks with his vampire family (the Cullens) but they don’t drink human blood, they only drink animal blood. Bella and Edward realize that they can’t be without each other. And that leads us through the following three books, New moon, Eclipse and finally to this book, Breaking dawn. In Breaking dawn they get married. And that is something special for Bella because she is only 18 years old. But she loves him so much and wants to spend the rest of her existence with him. Vampires can’t die by themselves but they can get killed by other vampires or wolves. Bella tells her parents that she is going to Collage in the fall but instead she is about to become a vampire so she can live with Edward forever. But the honeymoon changes everything. Bella ends up pregnant and she wants to follow it through. The baby is growing so fast that it’s ready to be delivered after a couple of weeks. The baby is destroying her from inside her own body. When Reneesme is born Bella dies and Edward changes her into a vampire. But it doesn’t end there. Vampires have to follow some rules. And they are controlled by The Volturi (shortest way of explaining the Volturi is by refering to them as kings). One of the laws is that it’s illegal to change a human baby into a vampire because they can’t control themselves. The Voltori finds out that the Cullens have something that looks like a vampire baby. But they don't know that Bella delivered the baby from her own uterus. She could do that because she was still a human when Reneesmee was born. A vampire girl can’t have babies because a vampire girls’ body is frozen in time. Reneesmee is part vampire and part human, it means that she will grow, she have a heart, she likes blood and she will live forever. Bella, Edward and his family convince The Voltori that Reneesme is special and then they all live happily ever after.

There are many stories about vampires. Stephanies version is a little bit different. These vampires are strong, fast, humans finds them appealing, and their skin is hard like marble and cold like ice. They don’t have real “vampire teeth” they look like normal teeth does except that they are a thousand times sharper. When they are thirsty their eyes turn black otherwise they have a special brown color if they drink animal blood but if they drink human blood they turn red.

I think that Stephanie Meyer wants to tell a special love story. That it doesn’t matter who you are or what you are. Love overcomes everything. She dreamt of the Twilight saga in the summer of 2003. After that she began typing everything down. The dream she dreamt was about Bella and Edward talking in the forest about being in love but that her blood gave a scent that was hard for him to resist, even though he didn’t drink human blood. This little dream gave birth to the whole Twilight saga. I don’t really think that she meant something special with the book besides telling a love story that is quit unnatural. She just wanted to show the world what she had dreamt of, because she thought that the dream was the beginning of a story worth telling.

A special part in the book is the same as a character from the book. It is when we see everything from Jacobs point of view. Stephanie has written the book from Bellas, Edwards and Jacobs point of view. Jacob is Bellas’ best friend, and wolf. He lives in a sanctuary along with his Indian tribe. In their blood there has always been a curse that changes some of them into wolves when vampires are near for a very long time. They can’t kill the Cullens as long as they don’t drink human blood. Jacob is in love with Bella, and when you read everything from his point of view you get sad and disturbed. Stephanie has included every detail such as smell, facial expressions, what they see, what they feel and what they think all at the same time. I feel sorry for Jacob but at the same time I want him to leave them alone.

When the sun shines on vampires their skin looks like glowing diamonds. And since the Cullens want to be settled down they have to be in a rainy and cloudy environment otherwise they would reveal their secret to humans. So they need a place where there is a thick cloudbank and Forks is perfect for that. The sun only shines a few days a year. Bella often talk about the rain and that she misses the sun.

I like this book. It was the perfect ending of the Twilight saga. When I got it I couldn’t stop reading, I was hooked. And think that it’s because of Stephanies way of expressing everything. And you feel like you are a part of the book while you are reading. You want to be in the book, be one of the characters. In the second book Edward leaves Bella because he wants to give her the ability to live a normal life. While you were reading that book it felt like your heart died. Like somebody drove a sharp knife right through it. It’s the same with this book. When the characters are happy, I’m happy.
The Dead Body in the Library

I have read The Dead Body in the Library by Agatha Christie. A body of young women is found in the library of Mr and Mrs Bantry. The police get contacted and the investigation gets started. The woman who was found was named Ruby Knee, a dancer at hotel in the town. She had a very near contact to Mr Jefferson and he had planes to adopt her.

Soon after Ruby was found they find another young woman in a burned car. She is thought to have disappeared at the same day as Ruby disappeared.

Mrs Bantry calls her near friend Miss Marple to help the police to solve the case. She has very good track at the people in the town and shows out to be a very good help to the police.

The message with the book is to maintain people with an exciting and shocking story. That’s almost always the message with thrillers.

The part in the book where they found the second body is the part when things seriously start to happen. The people in the village started to get worried and that makes them talk.

And when they started to talk it was easier for Miss Marple to get important information from them. And this information got closer and closer to the solution.

Miss Marple is an amateur detective who actually solves the case. She’s smarter than the police thanks to her contact with the people in the town. She knows who to talk to and everything she hears remain.

I liked her, she really lifted the book; her personality, she sweet little lady with all the answers. She was always one step ahead, she had it all figured it out and it makes so that her character stands out, and that’s why I like her.

The story does not take place in contemporary. They don’t talk so much about clothes or other things that show the timing of the action takes place. But I noticed that the police don’t seem too have any help by computers or other modern technology in the investigation and there is no knowledge about mobile phones.

The environment is typical british; big mansions, butlers, housemaids, chauffeurs’ and ladies drinking tea in the afternoon.

She didn’t write so much about the environment, but it didn’t matter.

The more important was too targeting on the case and on the people. In this book there were a lot of characters and in the beginnings of the book it was a little bit hard to keep them apart. There were a lot of names to keep track of and at the same time you have to remember everything around the murder. So the author has a big task to get her readers to remember the characters and the story.

It took some time for me to get into the book. I thought that the beginning of the book was a bit slow. But after some capitals it started too happen some things; another murder, people started too show their real you and suspects started to get into the picture. The book got more interesting and exiting.

Despite I lacked for a couple of things at the end of the book I thought it was a good book.

It was a typical Agatha Christie book with an unexpected twist at the end. I like books where when you start reading you don’t know how it ends and this is a perfect example of that kind of book.
Maja, thank you for your nice presentation.
When writing a summary of a plot use present tense all the time (on all the verbs).

I think you have displayed the essential parts of the plot in a good way. You focus on the fact that Miss Marple is a clever amateur detective who is actually better at solving crimes than the police.

You have quite a good way of writing and using your language. Your sentences could be longer and more advanced. You make some unnecessary grammar mistakes that I think you could easily correct yourself if you had given the text some more time. Examples of this capital letter the correct words, the use of too, usage of wrong words etc. Also, you tend to forget some words in your sentences every now and then.

I miss a deeper description of the message of the story.

I’ve read And Then There Was None by Agatha Christie. It’s a detective fiction and was published 1939 with the name Ten little niggers, which was changed later. It’s about ten people who are all called to an island with different motives. They have never met each other before and have nothing in common, except one thing. They have previous been complicit in the death of others. They have gotten away with it, but someone thinks that they need to be punished. One after one they get killed, just as in the verse Ten little niggers, which the book is based on. Or as it say in the book today, Ten little soldiers/Indians. The murderer kills after the verse, like then the first little soldier who chocked. Guess how the first person died. They are trying to find the killer, looking after someone else on the island, but there is none. So the killer is one of them, but who? The judge? The doctor? The Butler?

The book is interesting and you always think that you know the answer, but then again you start to doubt it. You get to see in everybody’s head, and none of them seems to be the killer. You really think through the whole book, trying to figure out who the murderer is, and how the next one is going to die. I liked that a lot. To think for yourself and not just follow the story to see the end. But that is really typical for this kind of book, so it’s not like it is new. It’s just that I like that kind of book.

Another thing I thought about is the way the book was written. There were short chapters with only the important things. That made the book easy and hard on the same time. You didn’t understand who it was about, and you mixed up the persons sometimes. That was especially hard in the beginning. But I like the short chapters, because you didn’t have to focus on the text a very long time, so you could take a brake after every chapter.

I loved the idée about the book then I heard about it. Ten people stuck on an island with one killer, it sounds really exciting. And when I read the book it really lived up to my expedition, and was exactly what I wanted. The way you can read what they are thinking, how people react then someone is dead and then they stars to accuse etch other. I like then you can read the persons thought, and then they are going mad. It fascinates me. And then you are stuck on an island you can’t do anything but get mad. Then the lady hears the bee and you read how she gets madder and madder is really great. You understand what is going to happen, and it’s kind of interesting to see how she reacts before that. Also in the end there are great examples, but I don’t want to tell them here.

One of my favourite characters is Dr. Armstrong. He’s really interesting, and seems to be really nice. He regrets his mistake and really tries to find. I like that about him. He is one of the persons who really seem normal.

The dining room was the most exciting room, because that was there everything happened. The little figures ware on the table and it was one of the main rooms. I think that room affected me the most, because of the little figures. They created an effect then they disappeared. And another thing is how the room is described. It simple but classy, and I liked that a lot.

If you want to read an exciting book I think this book is a great choice. And not just this book, but a lot of Agatha’s books are really exciting, have I heard. This is the first of her books that I have read, but I’ve heard a lot of good about her, and now I really get why. So if you need a good book, read this.
I will give you all feedback over the mail. The story begins with ten people who are called to an Island named Indian Island to meet a person they actually don't know much about, or should I say nothing at all? The thing that the persons have in common is that they have all taken someone’s life in some sort of way. And there’s no one who knows the other one. But it still gets stranger because the person they were set up to meet isn’t there. Weird things start to happen on the Island, and it seems as they are connected to the small Indian figures on the dining table. One after another they fall prey for this murderer who has to be one of them. The question is who?

The book is a real good brain starter which starts quite slow, but when it gets a hold of you, you won’t drop the book! Because you always see the story from one or another’s perspective you always think that you’ve got it figured out, but still you are not quite sure. At some times you may think “oh, I think I know who it is now!” And then when you have carried on reading you realize that you were wrong. This book is absolutely a book to recommend for the ones who likes to use their head a lot.

The book is written in a very strict language that sometimes are hard to understand, but when you have read half of the book you start to get at grip of it. Christie has sectioned the book in short chapters which makes it easier to take pauses if required.

I am honestly going to say that I didn’t have such big expectations on this book because it really didn’t appeal to me in the beginning, but when I started to read it I was caught at once.

It was very hard to put the book away.

The way Agatha Christie wrote the book makes it so exiting, you get to see everything from all the people’s different angles. And at last you almost get crazy as well.

I really liked the point of no return place in the book where you see how the people who are left gets closer and closer to both death and madness, because in the end everyone is going to die.

My favorite character is Miss Vera Claythorne who came to the Island for a job, but when the person they were going to see don’t show up and all these things happen, she starts to become more and more insane. She’s so innocent in the beginning but in the end she’s so traumatized that she nearly loose her mind.

The room which held most of the story is the dining room, where big amounts of the book take place.

And the small Indian figures on the table which disappears at the same time as a person really makes an impression on you. I also really like the way Christie describes her environments in the book, simple but still easy to understand.

I have said it before, but I really do recommend this book to all people who enjoy murders and other scary stuff, because it contains a lot of it. The category “murder” is spelled Agatha Christie.
Strange.. it was all spaced and good in word, but here it isn't. I’ve posted some comments here along with the text. You’ve written a good text about Christie’s And Then There Were None. I’ve seen a film version of the story once. It’s actually a great story.

You’ve used a good introduction to your reading and the description of the plot catches your attention.

You have a great way of writing and using your language. You use very good phrases, expressions and have an advanced, varied and wide vocabulary which is excellent.

I like your ending as well about Christie as a murder story author. However, I miss a clear section about the message.
